Charity Commission’s 2022 annual return analysis

The Charity Commission for England and Wales has published new analysis from the annual return 2022, looking at the health of the charity sector. Its key findings include:

• On average, larger charities saw both income and expenditure grow, while lower income charities saw expenditure outweigh their income
• Income from local or national government grants fell across all charities, with smaller charities reporting the biggest drop in income from these grants
• Financial resilience remains a key risk for the sector and charities continue to report challenging circumstances with rising costs, funding pressures and increased demand.
