Safeguarding for Funders

  • St. George's Centre, Leeds
  • 8 July 2025
  • 11-3pm

This training will be delivered by Clair Cook, UK Safeguarding Advisor at The Funder Safeguarding Collaborative (FSC).

Safeguarding is essential for all organisations, including trusts and foundations. The FSC provides support to funders which de-jargons and simplifies safeguarding, helping grant makers to embed it within their day-to-day activities.

Who should attend?

Any grant-making organisation seeking to understand how safeguarding applies to their organisation and their grant-making practices. This training will be of particular interest to those who lead or are responsible for designing and/or implementing grant programmes which fund objects in the UK.

Course content includes:

  • Overview of safeguarding definitions and legal context
  • The safeguarding expectations on charitable organisations in the UK
  • Different approaches to embedding safeguarding in grant making, looking at positive practice principles and the ASF-FSC Framework
  • Applying positive principles to assessment, monitoring and reporting

The training will be interactive and practical, aiming to help funders identify strengths and gaps in their approach to safeguarding as well as steps to make improvements.
