Diversifying Your Board: Why It Matters and How To Do It

  • Zoom
  • 18 March 2026
  • 10-12pm

Is your board truly representative of the communities you serve?

Join Yorkshire Funders for a dynamic and thought-provoking webinar exploring how to build more inclusive, diverse, and effective boards in the funding sector.

Meet our speakers:

  • Anoushka Kenley, Director of Research & Policy at Pro Bono Economics, offers insights from the large-scale research they carried out with The Charity Commission on board diversity. Research report here.
  • Vondy Thornton from The Young Trustees Movement will share practical strategies to engage younger voices in governance.
  • Steph Taylor, CEO of Leeds Community Foundation will outline their journey and how the board and wider governance arrangements reflect the communities of Leeds.

The session will be chaired by Imogen Graham, herself a young trustee of Yorkshire Funders as well as Leeds Building Society Foundation Grants Manager.

What you’ll learn:

  • Why diversity on boards improves decision making and impact.
  • How to recruit and retain trustees from under-represented backgrounds.
  • What barriers exist – and how to dismantle them.
  • Real-life examples of boards doing it well (and what they’ve learned).

This session is ideal for trustees, CEOs, and funder staff who want to learn how to diversify their board. Expect honest conversation, practical takeaways, and inspiration to rethink who’s at your table.

This session is free for members to attend ( a £15 charge for non-members applies) and you can reserve a place via our Ticket Tailor page using this link.
