There are more than 8,000 funders, foundations and charitable trusts in the UK and each of these may have different ways to assess applications for grants, based on their size, their criteria, size of grant, etc. But there are key issues and principles which most will have in common and its these that this course will focus on.
We will look at:
- The role of the grants assessor
- The characteristics of what makes a good grant assessment
- The principles that underpin good practise in grant assessment
- What we are looking for when assessing a grant application and interpreting governing documents
- What we need to do and be aware of so that our assessments are objective, fair, and equitable
- What information does a good assessor need to make an objective, fair, and equitable assessment?
This course will help you to:
- Identify the key principles of grant assessing.
- Identify the risks that affect making good assessment and how to plan for them.
- Identify what makes a good grant application and how to find this information.
- Develop solutions to dilemmas and choices in grant assessments, learning from colleagues in similar positions.
The session will be a mixture of information, presentations, exercises, talking, listening, and learning from each other, so that you can become a better grants assessor.
